Choice: My days here at Parkway West !

My Transferred Here At Parkway West

My transferred here at Parkway west have been like a rollercoasters and here are some reasons of why my days here have been a rollercoasters .
When I first got here I was very nervous because my old school was huge. There were around three thousand students who were studying in the school; furthermore, there were around three hundred staff members in my old school. My class schedule was hard for me to understand. Since I had never seen that kind of schedule before, I could not find my classes on time. Also, I was frightened of asking other students for directions because I did not know any of them. My first class was English two and I was already late for the class. Fortunately, I saw a security guard walking around in the hallway, who helped me to find my class. I was late getting to all of my classes. Many times I have asked teachers for directions too; overall my teachers got mad at me and told me not to be late every time.
Second, I felt lonely because there was not anyone with whom I could talk to. There were too many students walking around the school, but they never smiled at me or said “Hi” or “Hello” to me. In addition, in my African American History class students had to work in a groups, and no one wanted to work with me so I just sat there. Moreover, during the lunch period, I had to sit alone in the cafeteria, when other students were enjoying their lunch period with their friends.
     .

Also, I felt sadness at that time, because I missed my friends and family very much. When I was back at Bartram High School my two best friends, Tyechelle and Hannah and I used to go to school together everyday; if one of us did not understand any concepts, we always helped each other out. Hannah and Tyechelle always had told me that I was going to miss them in advance and it was the truth because ever since I got here at Parkway West things were not the same for me anymore, It felt like I had to start all over again, my grades been dropping in many classes that I know I can pass, the schedule were different, I have no friends and to top it off I go to school late every single day.
There is one thing that I dislike about the school, and that’s because its only on one floor and one floor alone and the funny thing about it is that we shared school with middle schoolers but we suppose to be a high school, we don't have enough students to make our own team we have to share sports with West Philly High School, and most of all I’m not used to little school like Parkway West ,but that’s not going to stop me from doing what I’m suppose to do in order for me to graduate High School I just have to work with what I have now and make it better for myself because I know if I put my mind into something I can accomplish it

POEM: Bomb Details Emerge in Boston Case

Three people were killed
176 were injured
there were many tear's
of members Family's that was hurt
“It’s supposed to be a day of celebration but, it’s a day of sadness
you train so hard for such a long time
“It’s heartbreaking to not cross the finish line,
Bombs were a device that were used against us
It was a explosive explosion
that took up three lives
and injured 176 people
from the marathons!

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/17/us/officials-investigate-boston-explosions.html?pagewanted=1&ref=us

I choose this article by going on New York Times news articles. I decided to do this poem on Bomb Detail Emerge In Boston Case because I feel that it was the latest news, and I found it really interesting and I also felt sorry for what happen to those people. My poem is based on what happen to Boston , such as the bomb that took place yesterday Monday 15, 2013, my poem is also about the details that emerge in Boston. I  will say that it was okay making a found poem because I get to put my creativity  in what I were doing , and plus it was kind of hard but then again it wasn't that hard because all I had to do was just try  to have fun with it. I had to take a article and made it into a short poem which I thought were kind of hard. I really don't think this was a hard process because I seen a example of how it were suppose to be done , and plus I understood the process clearly. I think it was worth it because it was a one in life time thing, so I just did what I could with it, but to be honest I don't find myself doing this in the future because I really don't like writing poems nor am I good with them.

Slaughter Of The African Elephants

In Slaughter of the African Elephants Strindberg and Maisels spoke about how Poachers attacked a family of forest elephants in central Africa.

There was some important and  interesting facts in this article such as 62 percent of elephants vanished from central Africa between the year of 2001 and 2002 because they were being hunt for their tusk. There was also another quote or  fact that I  found , which was there was elephants that were being harshly killed and torture alive and the people that did those evil things to them elephants are suppose to be found for their brutal crime.

I think that animal should be treated like they are at least humans beings. The reason i said that is because I feel that everyday around the world there are animals that are constantly being abused like its nothing, and I just think that its really said that those people don't have any type of feelings nor hearts to look at an animal and just kill them just to make product out of them. It's really sad.. READING THIS ARTICLE JUST MADE ME REALIZE THAT, THERE ARE MANY ANIMALS THAT ARE BEING ABUSED AROUND MY NEIGHBORHOOD, SUCH AS THESE STRAY CATS AND DOGS WITHOUT NO HOME NOR SHELTER NOR FOOD TO EAT.

This article has left me with some unanswered questions such as why do people think that it's okay for them to capture Elephants and just brutally killed them for their tusk. Do the people that did those horrible things know that those animals have feelings just like us human beings? Do they not know that it deepling wrong for them to just look at a animal and kill it for no apparent reasons? Or do they think that killing them and making product out of them its going to make people agree with their the horrible decision that they did? If Ya'll don't mind  answering my question ,I will like for it to be answer in the near future! Please and Thank You!

Choice: The Bachelor' 2013 finale: Sean gives out his final rose

In the "The Bachelor 2013 finale: Sean gives out his final rose" by Brian Stitt talks about who won Sean heart and who won his final rose.

In the article "The Bachelor 2013 finale: Sean gives out his final rose" had some important facts that were not quoted which was "Catherine told Sean flat out that she loved him for the first time tonight, he responded with a frustratingly noncommittal. "Thanks for today." Ouch. This left Catherine rightfully terrified." I choose this quote because  I felt like Catherine was really pouring her heart out to Sean  Lowe and every single thing that she said felt like it so true. And when  Sean responded back to her in that way was just awkward and kinda hurtful to her.

There was another quote that I found was important and stood out to me, which was "letter actually just showed Sean Lowe that he was making a good choice, proposing to a woman who is confident in herself and her feelings for the bachelor." The reason I choose this quotes is because this quotes shows that Sean was making the right decision and it made him more confident of who he his final choice.

Well the whole point of this article was to let the viewer's know who Sean Lowe choose to be his wife , and this article also show the way he was hurt when he sent Desiree and Lindsey home . The reason I said that is because he said it during the reunion , he said that it was very hard to let Desiree and Lindsey go and it was  the hardest decision he ever made.

This articles / T.V show reminds me of some  other t.v show that use to come on, on  MTV such as "Flavor OF LOVE" the reason I said that is because it was about a man that needed love and was willing to find is love on a t.v. There was many girls that was fighting for his love and that's the something Sean was doing and that's what he got.

Sisters In Arms

In  the article Sisters in Arms by James Dao, talks about the problem of the U.S military not giving women's the same  opportunity that the males are serving.

In the article" Sisters In Arms"  spoke about how there are many females that decide to  put themselves and their families in risk by joining the U.S army.  Well the reason why I said that is because this article is trying to say that women are not physically strong and mantel y strong enough to be in the army basically what they are  trying to say is that women don't have what it takes to be in the army.

There was another quote from the article that stood out to me which was , " Of the 2.5 million Americans who have served in both wars since 2001, about 12 percent have been women". This quote just give a little summary of how many woman that were involved in the war during the year of 2001.

I made a connection with this article because I feel that there are jobs for everyone, and I feel that woman should not be in the army because they are ladies, I'm not just saying that because they are woman , but because I feel that its a man job. I just feel that man should be the one holding and carrying guns, not woman, I feel that women's should be home and  taking care of their children's.

I'm not saying that womens shouldnt be in the war because they dont have what it takes but , because I just feel that womans are better off not holding guns .

I really dont have any questons about this article but , I do think that this article really got me thinking about how this  womens in arms is going to turn out.

CyberWar

In the article "Cyber War" by Patricia Smith talked Cyber over the Internet and about the US hacking the Iranian nuclear plant and destroying it. It also say that we have a long history of conflict with Iran.

This article includes quotes from counter terrorism officials, and experts such as  "By the time the virus was stopped, it had infected and made useless more than 30,000 computers." I choose that quote because it seems like it shows how extremely powerful viruses are and it also tells  how many computers can get  hurt such as get infected with all types of viruses. This quotes also shows how this viruses  affected many computers around the world.

There was also another quote that were stated such as , "In 2009, a sophisticated computer worm known as Stuxnet wiped out a fifth of Iran's centrifuges, which are used to enrich uranium, setting back its ability to make nuclear weapons by several years. Many analysts believe the U.S. and/or Israel were behind that attack as well."

Well as for me I believe that this whole Cyber war is not good nor healthy for us nor the computers because we are using the computer and it can be a problem when you trying to use the Internet and the computer keeps popping up viruses that can be really annoying for us and the computers.

from what I read it makes me worried that these attacks will increase in the future, and it also have me scared beacuse I feel that the cyber attack is more dagerous then the nuclear attack.

Choice: Teen Victim In Fatal Crash Laid To Rest

In the article "Teen victim in fatal crash laid to rest"  written by Michelle Casady is based on a 17 year old name Gabriella Lerma who were involved into a fatal car crashed which she did not survived.

In the article "Teen Victim In Fatal Crash Laid To Rest" stated some importance memories from Gabriella friends and family's such as “She was just a real funny girl,” he said of his friend. “She had this giggle, and then this outrageous laugh she almost found everything funny" said  Gabriella childhood friend Bernal. I picked those quotes because they stood out to me, the reason I said that is because it reminded me of my grandmother and her laughs and the way how she was a loving person.

I think that this topic is very said because the Lerma family lost a daughter, a sister a friend and probably a aunt. This just made me think about what my family will do if they lost me? how will they act towards the world if I'M GONE? how are my family going to take the situation if they heard that they little girl died involving a car crash? This just had me thinking really hard about this family situation and how they going to live without their little girl.

This article reminds me of another article that I read and did a blog on which was called "Four Teens Dead in Car Crash ", the reason I said that is because they both were involved in car crashed and their was people who got hurt in both article such as  kids dying. There was also family members that were hurt because of the bad news that they got from the police.

From what I just read this article had left me with some unanswered questions such as , how are the two family taking the bad news? are they both feeling the same emotions? can the two families get over this tragic?

Historically Incorrect Canoodling

In Historically Incorrect Canoodling, by Stephanie Coontz tells the true history of Valentine's Day and its meaning. Stephanie Canoodling was really focus on people commit adultery without loving nor having true feelings for the person and they don't value their marriage"s, that's why she wants us to know that Valentine's Day is for us to remember love.

In the article Historically Incorrect Canoodling had some important facts such as "Married couples vow to renew their love"  this quotes stood out to me because I agree with what Stephanie Coontz is saying because I do feel that their are many people that are just marrying people just to marry them
Stephanie Coontz explains that Valentine's Day expectations has changed overtime. This article also stated that back then  "marragies were arranged and it was mixed emotions" about that situation.

Well as for me I believe that Valentines Day is primarily for lovers. But, you can also celebrate Valentine's Day with your friends. Strengthen the bond of friendship with a simple act of love. Let your friend know how much you enjoy hes/hers companionship that's what I do on Valentine's Day since I'm not grown up to actually fall in love with an mate. And I do not agree with the marriages being "devaul" because their are people that actually valus their marriages and cares for their love mates.

This article reminds me of the valentines Day movies and T.V shows that comes on every valentines day. These two things shows pictures, such as what people do on valentines day for their love ones ,. I also be seeing peoples in my family buy special gifts for their love ones or if they dont buy them gifts they spent that whole day with them showing and telling their love ones how special they are to them.

I really dont have any questions I'm just a little concern on how people are really treating Valentines Day. Such as , are they using it for the right purpose or just because they feel that everyone else around them are doing things thats why they should do it or thats why they are doing it now days.

A Rare Case Of Justice

In "A Rare Case Of Justice" by Graham Bowley is based on all types of different struggles in Afghans such as women rights , rapes and force to get married at the age of 13 and abused, young Afghan girls are not in school and if they were trying to go to school they were doused with acids to keep them out of their classes their was also a 14 year old girl that fought for girls education in that country and they also talked about childbirth and pregnancy.

In the article "A Rare Case Of Justice" have some  important quotes such as "if you take away that funding and pressure " says Heather Barr of women's rights Watch, the progress on women's rights "sustainable." I think that this quotes means that if there was no pressure in women rights there will be more success.

There was a fact in this article that stood out to me such as 1,400 number of Afghan women who died in childbirth or from pregnancy related causes for every 100,000 live births. The U.S rate is 21 deaths for every 100,000 live births.

There was also another fact of this article that stood out to me such as little girl name Sahar Gul who brought out the issue about young ladies being abused and forced to get married at the age of 13. That part of the article really got to me because I feel that it was wrong the way they treated that little girl the reason I said that is because I don't ever think that it is okay for anyone to be force into a marriage  at a young age.

This article has really left me with some unanswered questions such as, where is the little girl that was forced into a marriage? How is she living up to now? What are the people in Afghan living without educations ? How did the women rights turned out? Who family that were killed during childbirth? How did the girls that tried to go to class but was poured acids on turned out such as what happened to them? I hope that my questions can be answer in the near questions.

New Force Of America

In The New Face of America Veronica Majerol spoke that there will be more minorities being born in the United States. she also tells about the way she explores how things will change because more minorities are being born.
This article includes facts and quotes about this topic such as Senior demographer, William H. Frey tells about  the changes as a "transformation from mostly white... culture to the more globalized multiethnic country that we are becoming," there was a interesting fact that stood out to me  such as  in the last three decades, immigration to the United States has been highest from countries like Mexico, China, India, and the Philippines, as a result of the 1965 immigration act.

I think that this is really a serious shift that is towards the United States and it feel like this is a  critical time for them, I also feel that  this change will probably affect us in the  near future but I also feel and believe that in the future Hispanic’s minority will be greater then our generations.

This article really opened my eyes because I really learned some new stuffs because I was really  surprised to see the real percentages compared to the ones that were giving to me in class, I kinda believe that the percentages that my teachers give me was the right one and I also believed that their no others results nor percentages that will be giving

I still have some unanswered questions such as Will Hispanics take over? will this change affect the other cultures?

Civil War In Syria Raises !

In the article  "Civil War in Syria Raises Questions About When To Intervene" spoke about Refuge camps in boarding countries in Mafraq Jordan,This article also talks about how there are only temporary solution for refugees, but the international community is unsure of what to do next.

In the article Civil War In Syria Raises stated some important fact such as "A lot of people are trying to figure out what could be an  effective intervention that wouldn't cause more death and suffering", said U.S Secretary of State Hilary Clinton in May.

There was also an important fact that caught my attention such as " 2.5 million people have been affected by the crisis many of them in need of food, medical and shelter".The reason I choose those quotes are because they stood out to me , I said that is because they had some interesting facts and I felt that it was important for me to point out.

I feel like this topic was very important for them to point out because not that many people read the news paper nor watch the news so when I got the chance to read this news article I was able to see that their are more important things to worry about then just myself when others are struggling, such as not eating nor have food to eat.

This article really made me realize that their are more important things in the world to be worry about then just little stuffs as not doing my hair or going out and many more.

Lance Armstrong

The article Lance  Armstrong  spoke about people opinions and whether they should give him a second chance.

In the article Frida Ghitis  feels that he might have a chance to redeem himself, she said,"Armstrong's achievements recovering from cancer and then braking records in the cycling world which made him a source of inspiration an icon of hope.

In the article, Jeff Pearlman says he's almost 42, forget about it, he also said, "No. Lance Armstrong racing again is not truly an option anyway he's almost 42."

In the article , Kevin Powell believe we all have our flaws he said, "I see Lance Armstrong story as a tragedy and an opportunity. It's a tragedy because he lied for so long to too many people. I feel that  lying is not the way to any success if you asked me, especially if you really have people looking up to you and calling you their role model and a serious hero."

I think that they should give Lance Armstrong  another chance because I feel that everyone need a second chance and I feel that people are taking his matter too far, I feel like they should stop acting like they never cheated in their life and that they need to stop looking  at him like hes the only one who cheated on something by the way how he also had some some people who take him as a role model.

This article has left me with some unanswered question like:

I want to know why people act like they don't cheat?
why are they looking at him like he is a bad person?
why do people feel like they are better then him?
why are people judging him.?

School Cosing Down

In Philadelphia superintendent identifies schools he intends to close, Kristen A. Graham talks about how 37 school buildings are closing and  relocating. They are also closing down buildings to save money and they are taking academics into consideration.

The article includes quotes and some facts. The Superintendent William R. Hite said, "If we don't take these actions now, we actually have no money to spend." One fact that  I feel that got my attentions and also stood out to me was that the district has lost more than 50,000 students to charter schools in the last decade.

I feel that it would be a nice idea for schools to close down to save money. I also think that it is a brilliant idea  because they wouldn't have to worry about paying  bills after bills , after bills when they could just relocate  students and save lots of money. Lastly, I believe that this plan will work for the better even though people probably be complaining about the new change but    I  do believe they'll get used to the new change  and they will realize that school closing down can be for the better for the students and for the school itself.

This article has left me with some unanswered questions. Will this change bring more violence? what can students do to make this change more easier?  Will the environment be more safer? I wished that my questions can be answer in the near future.

ALL WORK NO PLAY

In All Work No Play Entin, spoke about  the problems of how kids are anxious and depressed because they have no free time to play. He also said talks about the way they feel and why they need more free time to play.

This article stated some  facts about this problem. One fact that  that I found  and stood out to me was that compared to "1981, children in 1997 spent less time in play and had less free time". There was also another fact that stood out to me was that "lack of play affects emotional development, leading to the rise of anxiety, depression, and problems of attention and self control."

I think that it is  good that children spend more time studying and working than playing because education is a very special and a important part in a child life. However, I don't feel that children will be depressed or anxious because children's know that their whole life don't depends on just free play because they know that they have to go to school and get their education.
I really connected to this article  because it reminded me of  when I was a little girl  the reason I said that is because when I was a  little girl  I was always playing games like hands games , going outside and playing with my friends , playing  ropes but I always knew that It will come to a time when I will have to stop and get serious with my school work, but I do wish that free plays don't affect nor mess with their education.

Guns Regulation

In Do We Have The Courage To Stop This? Nicholas D. Kristoff explores the problem of gun regulation talks about how the people are regulating other non important laws, instead of focusing on the big idea about guns.

This article includes some interesting facts. There was some facts that I think was more interesting and important such as children  at the ages of 5 to 14 in America are 13 times as likely to be murdered with guns, etc. There was also a fact that I found interesting which was guns kill 30,000 Americans a year.  I feel that guns are too easy to get to now and days and I feel that they need to come up with a new law for the guns policy because too many people are losing their lives to immaturity.

I feel that people that killed others for no reasons don't sometimes be in their right minds , but still that don't means that its okay for them to do what they do. I also feel that those that kills others should not have assess to guns in any type of way but it will be more easier if the law really changed. At least those that do have guns should not put it in a place that they know someone else could get to easier. I still believe that guns should not be allowed because their are innocents that have been killed by it.

I do believe that this article reminded me of the recent shooting that just happened  in Colorado. There were two guys that killed innocent children and adults  just because they were supposling not in their right mind I called that being irresponsible but mostly foolish. These two incidents make me realize that life is really short.

From what I read from this article and what I been thinking already before reading this article is that its not too safe living in this innocent world of ours. I feel that people is going to be scared now to leave their house because they might be afraid that they might get shot. I feel that we live in a free bullets society because their are bullets flying everywhere and that just terrifies me every time I think about it.

This article left me with some unanswered questions such as when are the laws going to change about this gun issues? Why are the government not taking this gun issues serious? Why are people so heartless now on days? Why don't people think before doing things especially bad things? I just hope that my questions can be answer in the  future.
